Distinguish a preorder from a walk-up exchange

Collecting cash ordered in a bank app and exchanging at a counter without a booking can have different terms. Identify the service before comparing an “airport rate.” For a reservation, check the collection branch and conditions in the booking.

This guide does not assume that every airport counter is expensive or that an alternative is always cheaper. Compare final quotes for routes you can actually use.

Match the counter to your flight itinerary

  1. Confirm the airport and terminal.
  2. Check whether the counter is before or after security.
  3. Confirm service at your visiting time, including the currency and reservation product.
  4. Prepare the identification and booking details required for collection.

Use an airport’s facilities information, such as Incheon Airport’s banking and exchange guidance (Korean), as a starting point; confirm product terms with the bank. No particular counter’s current hours are guaranteed here. Guidance link checked on 4 November 2026.

Calculate the cash needed immediately after arrival

List actual cash-only transport, a first meal, and a backup if a card fails. Do not count prepaid transport or accommodation twice. One fixed dollar amount will not fit every itinerary.

Initial cash budget = cash transport + essential cash spending + chosen contingency

Check which payment methods each item actually accepts. If a price is unknown, obtain it from the service rather than inserting an invented amount.

Separate the costs of an ATM alternative

For overseas withdrawals, check the operator’s charge, issuer charges, conversion method, limits, and card support separately. A debit withdrawal and a credit-card cash advance are different products.

If an ATM offers conversion into your home currency, read its exchange rate and additional costs before choosing. The related payment guide explains the conversion choice and cash planning separately.

Record a usable backup

Identify another accessible counter or payment method if collection becomes unavailable. With limited time before boarding, compare accessibility and flight timing as well as the price difference. Count cash and check it against the receipt after exchange.
